Back to My Community After Two Years of Traveling
By Nuhum Fazazi
Traveling for two years has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I’ve had the privilege of meeting people from diverse cultures, learning about traditions, and gaining a broader perspective on the world. But as much as I enjoyed my journey, I always carried a piece of home with me. Every step I took reminded me of where I came from and the community that shaped me into the person I am today.
Returning home after these two years, I felt an overwhelming desire to give back to my community—not out of obligation, but out of gratitude. My journey has taught me the value of roots, the importance of giving, and the beauty of shared humanity.
The Decision to Give Back
While traveling, I encountered many individuals who were deeply connected to their communities. They inspired me with their selflessness and dedication to uplifting those around them. I realized that the experiences and knowledge I gained could be used to make a meaningful impact back home.
Giving back wasn’t just about material contributions; it was about sharing my time, experiences, and values. It was about creating opportunities, fostering hope, and showing that no matter how far we travel, our hearts always belong to the places we call home.

Upon returning, I sought out ways to contribute that aligned with the needs of my community. Here are some of the steps I took:
1. Engaging with Local Leaders: I reached out to respected elders and leaders in the community, seeking their advice on how best to help. They guided me in identifying areas that needed immediate attention.
2. Supporting Education: I dedicated time and resources to supporting local schools and providing learning materials. Education is the cornerstone of progress, and I wanted to ensure that the younger generation had the tools they needed to succeed.
3. Cultural Preservation: I worked on initiatives to preserve and celebrate our culture. Traveling made me appreciate the uniqueness of every community, and I wanted my people to take pride in their heritage.
4. Empowering Youth: By sharing my experiences and the lessons I learned during my travels, I aimed to inspire the youth in my community to dream big and pursue their goals.
Lessons Learned
Giving back has been a humbling experience. I’ve learned that true wealth lies in the connections we make and the positive changes we bring to others’ lives. My community welcomed me with open arms, reminding me that the love and support of a united people are unparalleled.
A Continuing Journey
This is just the beginning. While I’ve taken the first steps in giving back, I know that the journey of community development is ongoing. I’m committed to staying involved and ensuring that my contributions make a lasting difference.
To my fellow travelers and dreamers, I urge you to remember where you came from. No matter how far you go or how much you achieve, giving back to your community is one of the most fulfilling things you can do
